06/20/09

06/21/09

This 36-hole tournament is open to all male and female amateurs and is limited to the first 144 entrants. It is played at Ingersoll the first day and Sandy Hollow the second. The tournament is named after Melvin Ballard, a Rockford barber and talented young golfer who won a local pro-am with LPGA star JoAnn Prentice in 1965. He was drafted into the army and killed in Vietnam in 1967 at the age of 23. In 1969, the Rockford Sportsman Golf Association launched the tourney in his memory. Entries are available at all Rockford Park District courses. Call: 815-987-8800
